What to do about algorithms and AI as gatekeepers in the job search...

I have researched a lot about goals, behavioral theories, and positive psychology as they pertain to the #jobsearch... but now let’s get tactical.


#Algorithms and #AI haven’t fully replaced people in recruiting roles, but recruiters are most definitely using algorithms to support their search efforts.


Algorithms are rules that direct computers’ actions. They help organizations sort through #resumes and help recruiters search for talent on sites like LinkedIn.


So what can #jobsearchers do about AI?

1. Make your online profiles strong using targeted #keywords

2. Customize your resume/application using #keywords


How?

1. Paste several job descriptions of roles you're interested in into a single Word doc.

2. Once you have several relevant job descriptions in your doc, copy all the text into a #wordcloud generator (there are several free ones online).

3. Look at the most frequently used words from the word list.

4. See which of those words apply to an experience, skill, responsibility, etc.

5. As you customize your #resume and #LinkedIn, add these #keywords (or short phrases) where relevant, accurate, and honest.


Being strategic with keywords on your resume and LinkedIn will help get you past the machines and in front of the humans who can actually get you hired!
