I watched a Ted talk this week that made me incredibly excited to be a coach! Atul Gawande gives an inspiring talk on how getting a coach can help “paint a more accurate picture of reality” for us and help take us to the next level of anything we do.

Why is it that elite athletes have coaches their entire careers but professionals don’t? It is as though we’ve all reached some ambiguous level of life/work proficiency and have reached a final destination…we are done changing and growing. This is altogether untrue! (see Jennifer Garvey Berger’s book) How can we change the narrative around adult “fixedness.?” As adults, there is just as much learning ahead of us as there has been behind us…and that a coach or teacher is not about fixing a deficiency, but can help maximize the awesomeness of this ongoing journey.
